OCLEEAA Academy Experience
The Orange County Law Enforcement Explorer Advisors’ Association (OCLEEAA) Explorer Academy has been hosting Explorer Academies since 1974.
The OCLEEAA Explorer Academy is a five-day academy structured much like that of a police recruit academy for explorers 14 to 20 years old. The academy is highly academic, coupled with intense physical activity, intended to promote confidence in working under pressure and perseverance in completing tasks in a team environment.
OCLEEAA hosts a winter and summer Explorer Academy each year. The winter academy is traditionally held during the Presidents’ Holiday weekend in February. The summer session is generally held at the end of July.
The OCLEEAA Explorer Academy is held at true police academy facilities, where officers and deputies are trained year-round for Orange County law enforcement agencies. Hosting OCLEEAA’s Explorer academies at the Golden West Criminal Justice Training Center and the Orange County Sheriff’s Academy allow Explorers to have first-hand experience at a police academy facility, furthering their knowledge and familiarity should they pursue a sworn law enforcement career in Orange County.
Santa Ana College oversees the academics of the Explorer Academy and awards Explorer graduates college credit for their attendance. During the Explorer Academy, Explorers receive 20 blocks of instruction to include ethics, criminal law, traffic/DUI enforcement, CSI, air support, SWAT and drill. All Explorers, who graduate OCLEEAA’s Explorer Academy are certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR. Instructors are specialists in their field and donate their time to provide instruction to the Explorers.
The Academy Staff consists of Law Enforcement Officers and Public Safety Employees, as well as Santa Ana College Instructors. Our Drill Instructors proudly served in the United States military prior to their career in law enforcement.
OCLEEAA’s Explorer Academy is designed to push Explorers to find their intestinal fortitude and succeed. Whether an Explorer wants to pursue a career in law enforcement or not, the Explorer Academy provides life skills and builds confidence in Explorers to pursue their interests and follow their dreams.
